About

Alba Domènech (Barcelona, 1983) is an established visual artist whose work has become a distinctive voice within the contemporary art scene. From a very young age, she showed a natural connection with drawing—always with a pencil in hand—channeling a deep sensitivity that would later evolve into a personal and recognizable visual language.

Her artistic universe draws from surrealism and Japanese aesthetics, delving into the dreamlike, the symbolic, and the feminine through an intimate and transformative lens. Her pieces often portray female figures that express sensuality, societal pressures, and a constant search for connection with the subconscious. A recurring element in her work is the butterfly, a symbol of fragility, metamorphosis, and inner guidance, embodying both vulnerability and strength.

One of the most innovative aspects of her practice is her mixed technique, developed through a fusion of digital drawing and traditional painting. This hybrid process blurs the lines between analog and digital, resulting in artworks charged with atmosphere, emotion, and visual tension. In many of her compositions, dark backgrounds give way to illuminated areas guided by the butterfly, where the deepest meaning of the piece lies.

Experiences such as motherhood, migration, and her lifelong commitment to artistic creation have shaped a constantly evolving trajectory. She has received several awards, including the Artista Revolución prize, and her work has been featured in major open calls, exhibited internationally, and collected by art lovers and cultural platforms alike. Her work was also featured on Spain’s leading public television network, in a report highlighting prominent voices in contemporary art.

She currently lives and works in Catalunya, where she continues to explore the boundaries between reality and the subconscious, matter and emotion, body and identity.

Personal note

My work explores the human experience through the female body as a symbol of transformation, desire, and contradiction. Creating images that shift between light and shadow, reality and dream.

Like the butterfly undergoing its own metamorphosis, my creative process is one of constant evolution. I paint to communicate what cannot always be spoken, to provoke emotion, to invite an inward gaze. In each piece, I seek to capture the complex beauty of what is fragile and strong, visible and invisible.

How I work

Through my art, I aim to showcase two different modalities, namely digital hand drawing and traditional painting. My objective is to combine these two worlds in a way that represents a fusion of the past and the future.
In order to achieve this, I prefer to draw manually my designs using digital tools, his allows me to delve deeper and express my creativity in a way that is personal to me. Once the designs are complete, I print them using high-quality materials, taking care to guide the final result towards my vision.
For the final touch, I add extra layers of paint in a traditional manner, using different textures such as resin, gold, pigments, inks, acrylics and more. This helps to bring a sense of depth and expression to my pieces, ultimately creating a unique and luxurious work.
